On behalf of the American Lebanese Medical Association (ALMA) and with exceeding joy associated with a deep sense of pride, we do send our warmest congratulations to the American University of Beirut (AUB) for electing Dr. Fadlo Raja Khuri as its 16th President.

ALMA considers Dr. Fadlo Khuri as one of its outstanding members and physician leaders and takes special pride in the fact that he is the first American Lebanese to assume the Presidency of AUB after 150 years of its inception. AUB is considered the crown jewel of academic institutions and universities not only in the Middle East but around the world and deserves to have an exceptional and a remarkable American Lebanese physician scientist as its President. Dr. Khuri has contributed immensely to the success of the ALMA educational symposia conducted in Lebanon over the last 5 years by actively participating and leading many of its sessions pertaining to oncology. He was also instrumental in expanding ALMA throughout the United States always serving as a role model for an exemplary American Lebanese physician scientist-leader who has moved the field of oncology forward in a remarkable way.

Dr. Khuri is presently Professor and Chairman of the Department of Hematology and Medical Oncology, Emory University School of Medicine, and holds the Roberto C. Goizueta Distinguished Chair for Cancer Research. He also serves as Deputy Director for the Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University. Dr. Khuri was recently appointed Executive Associate Dean for Research of the Emory University School of Medicine.

He was on faculty at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center from 1995-2002 prior to joining Emory University and the Winship Cancer Institute (Winship) in 2003 where he forged strong collegial relationship with current ALMA leadership.

His work has been cited over 15,000 times and his H-factor is 64. He also serves as Editor-in-Chief of Cancer.
